ORLAND, CA (MPG) - Gridley and Biggs/Richvale Little League softball All-Star tournaments were full of success stories. Although each team came up short of their ultimate goal, winning their bracket, and winning the District 47 tournament, each team walked off the field feeling great about their runs in the tournaments. Each team in the Majors and Minors tournament competed in four games, winning two and losing two.

After defeating Chico in a wild thriller on Saturday, June 15th, Gridley Majors headed back to Orland to face Willows on Tuesday, June 18th. Gridley would fall 6-2 to Willows in a pitching dominant game. Gridley then faced off against Biggs/Richvale in the losers bracket the following day on Wednesday, June 19th. Gridley went on to win that game 10-0, winning the losers bracket.

The victory set up a rematch between Gridley and Willows. This time, Gridley changed strategies and battled hard with Willows with a 1-1 score into the 6th inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Willows took a 2-1 lead off a 1-2 count blooper over the third baseman’s head scoring a runner from second base. In the bottom of the sixth inning Gridley’s Kirtan Kalkat hit a deep fly ball to right center. In an attempt to tie the game she rounded third base headed for home plate. Kalkat ultimately got thrown out at the plate, despite her best efforts for her team to even the score up at 2-2. Willows would go on to win by a score of 2-1 and win the Pool A bracket.

Biggs/Richvale Majors got their tournament started on Saturday, June 15th, in Orland against Willows. Biggs/Richvale would fall by a score of 8-2. They would hit the field again in Orland on Monday, June 17th, against Chico, and eliminate the Chico team from the tournament with a score of 20-11. On Tuesday, June 18th, Biggs/Richvale was at it again against Orland with a 17-7 victory. Unfortunately, Biggs/Richvale would fall to Gridley the next day and be eliminated from the tournament.
