CHICO, CA (MPG) - Local high school baseball and softball players and coaches competed in the annual Chico Breakfast Lions Club All-Star games. The games took place on Saturday, June 8th, at Hooker Oak Park in Chico.
Top talented baseball and softball athletes were nominated to participate by their coaches after the season concludes. This year, Biggs High School varsity softball coach, Michelle Felkins, had the honor of coaching the All-Star South softball team for the George Hibdon Classic. Biggs’ varsity seniors Taryn Barton and Megan Collins were selected to play in the game. Due to prior engagements, Collins was unable to play, but Barton had the honor of going out and representing her school and community behind the dish for the South team. In a very close and exciting game the North team won by a score of 5-4 in seven innings.
Coach Felkins said the game was a good close one with a lot of talented athletes and that all of the girls had a good time playing. Most of those athletes who participated in the game will be going off to play ball in college next school year.
Also this year, Gridley varsity baseball coach, Dan Crabtree, had the honor of coaching the All-Star South baseball team for the Bob Busch Classic. Also assisting were Biggs’ varsity baseball coach, Javier Solis, Gridley baseball coaches Jason Kopp and Arthur Garcia, and retired Gridley baseball coach, Brian Fesler.
Gridley players selected to play in the game were Lance Santerre and Triston Platter. Biggs players selected to play in the game were Hunter Roles and Kameron Smith. Each player from Biggs and Gridley had one hit in the game. The South team won by a score of 16-8.
