Biggs High School Class of 2019 Celebrates the Future

BIGGS, CA (MPG) - As graduation looms on the horizon and area schools get ready for their seniors to take that next leap towards their future, Biggs is already ahead of the game.

Biggs celebrated their overachieving seniors at their annual Scholarship Night on May 15th. Over 33 organizations, businesses and clubs awarded scholarships to graduating seniors, reaching a grand total of $46, 750.00 in scholastic funds. Graduates received scholarships based on academic performance, speech and essay competition results, athletic achievement and more.

The 2019 Scholarship Recipients are as follows: Kameron Smith, Karsyn Mclean, Bryson Roles, Madison Roles, Ciera Van Quick, Jamie McEntire, Tucker Bennett, Mackenzie Rutherford, Tanner Smith, Angel Sanchez, Lilly Baker, Allyssa Bettencourt, Julisa Alvarado Corona, Crystal Johnson, Paloma Velazquez, Jose Velazquez, Megan Collins, Jorge Castaneda, Courtney Thompson, Taryn Barton, Molly Roles and Hunter Roles.

The night closed with refreshments and mingling, scholarship winners taking the chance to personally thank those that bestowed the awards on them.

Fast forward two weeks and the Biggs Unified School District 2019 year has come to a close. The Wolverines are the first area high school to graduate with commencement ceremonies set to be held this Friday, May 31st. The program will begin with proud parents of graduates being awarded flowers by their students, and will include the 2019 Class history, provided by Bryson Roles and Megan Collins.

As tradition, the crowd of family and friends will be treated to speeches from Salutatorian Jorge Castaneda, and Valedictorians Karsyn McLean and Kameron Smith as they reminisce about their school years and share their hopes for the future.

Superintendent Doug Kaelin and counselor Mrs. Ashleigh Aldridge will follow with an awards presentation after which 56 graduates will walk the stage. Graduates will be awarded their diplomas by members of the school board. As graduates exit the stage, their secondary education complete, they will gather with friends and family to celebrate their achievements and bright futures.
