Biggs-Richvale Little League Holds Opening Day
BIGGS, CA (MPG) - Gray skies couldn't keep Biggs Richvale Little League from kicking off the season at their opening ceremonies, held Saturday March 23rd at the Biggs High School gym.
The day started off with a Pancake Breakfast sponsored by Les Schwab of Gridley. Owner of Les Schwab, Shon Cook, his wife Sundara Cook and Nick Caldwell flipped pancakes and served orange juice to excited ball players of all ages while teams waited for their turn for teams pictures.
At 10:00 the 11 A's little league teams, ranging from t-ball to majors, made their way to the gym for the program. After general announcements, thanks went out to the leagues sponsor, the Oakland A's, who provide uniforms for the teams and tickets for each team to attend an A's game, and to the City of Biggs for help with maintaining the ball fields.
Next, individual players from each team were announced and spotlighted as they made their way across the basketball court and into the stands to join their respective teams in front of the audience. Keri Wheeler of Wheeler Ranch and Feed lead the teams in singing the National Anthem while saluting the flag.
Guidelines for parents and coaches were reviewed, before the teams recited the little league pledge. Brian Harrison had the honor of throwing the first pitch of the season, caught by little leaguer catcher Cashton Acosta, with umpire Jason McLaughlin at his back.
The eager players could hardly sit still for the final group picture before heading out to the diamonds to "play ball!"
