CHICO, CA (MPG) - The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 582 for Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties is bringing The Moving Wall to Chico from June 5 through June 9. The Moving Wall will be located at the Chico Elks Lodge, 1705 Manzanita Ave., and will be open to the public 24 hours a day.
The Moving Wall is a half-size, 253-foot, traveling replica of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The wall has tremendous significance for the 58,318 who died in the Vietnam War and the 2.5 million servicemen and women that served in Vietnam. The wall provides an opportunity for many that are unable to visit the Memorial in Washington, D.C. to visit the Memorial locally.
Every time The Moving Wall visits a town, thousands of visitors come to find a name or a few names that are very special to them. It helps bring closure and healing to veterans, their families and friends of those who died or are still missing in Vietnam.
The wall is intended to help close old wounds, not to open them, and to educate the community about the war in Vietnam and its social and economic impact on our nation and our veterans. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
